Hybrid Rental Cars – Since the most efficient cars these days are Hybrids, why not choose Hybrid Rental Cars to combine fun and save your holiday piggy bank…
It gets easier to find a hybrid car rental and save money on fuel with the Hybrids fantastic MPG.
Enterprise Hybrid Car Rental
In the US the biggest car rental company is ‘Enterprise Rent a Car’. They also have the biggest Hybrid Fleet in the US.
In 2009 they added another 5.000 Hybrid Rental Cars to the existing fleet, by that doubling the available amount of Hybrid Cars for customers.
These Vehicles are available at about 80 locations across the US, including 10 airports.
Models include the Toyota Prius and Camry Hybrid , Ford Escape Hybrid and Nissan Altima Hybrid.
I must say that Enterprise is doing a lot to push the clean fuels. I like!
Avis Hybrid Car Rental
Another big player for car rentals in the US is AVIS.
Avis offers for example the Ford Escape Hybrid and the Toyota Prius. All in all they do not seem that committed to offering Hybrid Cars as Enterprise is.
Hertz Hybrid Car Rental
Hertz also has some Hybrid Cars in their so called ‘Green Collection‘, for example the Toyota Prius and Camry Hybrid.
Travelocity Green and Hybrid Car Rentals
The online travel agent Travelocity offers a program to find Hybrid Cars for rent, arguing that the customers would save up to 30 % in fuel costs by choosing a Hybrid.
NYTimes: Whopping Price Premium
Recently the New York Times researched the price premium for renting Hybrid Rental Cars.
The test showed that the price premium compared to a “normal” car is up to 70 %. This can make sense if you remember that the buying price is higher and somebody renting a Hybrid is likely to drive more (that’s why he chooses the hybrid to save on fuel).
On the other hand the rental companies get a higher trade-in value for the Hybrid…
So you have to aware of this price premium and decide for yourself if the saved fuel costs balance the premium on the car rent.
